With Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull wrapping up the Driver’s Championship and Constructor’s Championship respectively in India on Sunday, many would believe that the last three rounds of the 2013 season are just a formality.
There are however other important battles occurring lower down the Driver’s and Constructor’s standing which guarantee to provide some entertainment in the final three rounds. The most intriguing battle at the moment is the fight between Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton for second in the Driver’s Championship. Raikkonen is only 24 points behind Fernando Alonso, who will be his teammate at Scuderia Ferrari next season. Lewis Hamilton is a further 14 points behind.
Other battles occurring throughout the Driver’s Championship is the battle for 5th place between Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg who are separated by only 4 points, the battle for 7th between Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa who are level on 102 points each, and lastly there is the battle for 10th where Paul di Resta, Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez and Adrian Sutil are all in contention with 12 points separating the four drivers.
In the Constructor’s Championship the main fight now is between Ferrari and Mercedes for 2nd (4 points separating the two teams), with Lotus currently lying not far behind in 4th (A further 24 points adrift). Another battle to look for is between Marussia and Caterham, where Caterham require a 12th place finish in the remaining rounds in order to overhaul Marussia who currently lie in the lucrative 10th place in the Constructor’s Championship.
