McLaren Launch

Yesterday, McLaren launched their 2015 challenger, the MP4-30, and surprised many by deciding to use their chrome livery which many would associate with their engine partnership with Mercedes, instead of opting for a white livery which is normally associated with Honda.

Despite this, it is important to remember that reports in the last few days suggested that McLaren would be using a separate livery for winter testing before changing it prior to the first race in Australia in March.

Apart from the livery, many are excited about the McLaren-Honda partnership beginning and are wondering how successful it will be compared to the same partnership that took place during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It is important to remember that when Honda initially signed with McLaren for 1988, McLaren had won three of the previous four Driver’s Championships. This time McLaren haven’t won a championship of any kind since 2008.

Many people will also be excited about the new driver lineup at McLaren and seeing how the dynamic between Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button plays out throughout the year.

With all this hype, many at McLaren have been cautious about their 2015 chances. Taking into consideration their 2014 performance, a season with numerous podium finishes would be seen as a successful first year for the McLaren-Honda partnership.
