Today marks the first day of pre-season testing for Formula One. With it comes an anti-climax as teams will be spending most of the first test getting used to the machines they have built, rather than pushing them to the limits.
Whatever times are recorded by the cars can’t be taken as a true sign of a teams pace as there will be upgrades added at future tests and just before the Australian Grand Prix.
Teams are also likely to be running varying fuel loads to either hide pace or show their car to be faster than it really is.
The best thing to look out for is how many laps a team has done as it can show how reliable a car is, and often a teams preseason performance can be judged by how many laps and miles its car has done.
