This weekend sees Formula One go to Britain for round nine of the championship where championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, will be aiming to win once again at his home race, repeating his success from last year. Nico Rosberg however will be hoping to follow up his win in the last round in Austria with a win at a track that he won at in 2013. Going into the race Rosberg finds himself back to ten points behind his teammate in the championship.

Britain has seen ten of its drivers become a world champion in the sport, the first being Mike Hawthorn in 1958 who won driving for Ferrari.

The British Grand Prix itself has been held on four different circuits including Brooklands, which held the race prior to the inception of Formula One, Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Aintree. It will be the fifty first time a British Grand Prix has been held at Silverstone, forty nine of which will have been in the Formula One era, the other two were before the creation of Formula One.

The most successful drivers at the British Grand Prix have been Briton’s Jim Clark and France’s Alain Prost who have both won the event five times. Current active drivers Hamilton, Alonso, Rosberg, Vettel and Raikkonen have all won the event.

Jim Clark is the only driver to have won British Grand Prix’s at three of the four venues the race has been held on. Those being Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Aintree.
