Formula One returns from its summer break and heads to an iconic circuit at Spa-Francorchamps which has hosted forty seven Grand Prix’s. Other circuits to have hosted the Belgian Grand Prix include Zolder and Nivelles.
The most successful Belgian driver at the race was Jacky Ickx who achieved a third in 1968, driving for Ferrari. The most successful driver ever around the circuit is Michael Schumacher who won the event six times.
Of the current grid, six have won the event in the past. Those being Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton, Vettel, Button and Ricciardo. With Raikkonen being the most successful out of the six, having won the race four times.
A good driver to watch throughout this weekend is Kimi Raikkonen who, as mentioned, has won four times in Belgium, which includes an unlikely win in 2009. Raikkonen showed good race form in Hungary before a reliability issue ended his race, could he brush that aside and put in another competitive performance this weekend?
Although Ricciardo won last year’s Belgian Grand Prix, he was fortunate in that the two Mercedes drivers collided. The question is will Mercedes resume their dominance or will there be another surprise on the cards?
