This weekend sees Formula 2 return to action for the fifth round of the season as it supports Formula 1 at the French Grand Prix.
Having won the feature race in the last round in Monaco and then finishing seventh in the sprint race, Dutchman, Nyck de Vries, is the form driver having cut Canadian, Nicholas Latifi’s points lead down to just one point.
Others on form include Guanyu Zhou who has finished in the points in the last four races, of which two were third place finishes, while Frenchman Anthoine Hubert has also managed to finish in the points in the last four races, including his maiden Formula 2 victory in the Monaco sprint race last time out.
In need of a result
It says much for the competitiveness of the championship that current points leader, Nicholas Latifi has won two feature races and one sprint race on a six race consecutive point scoring streak prior to the Monaco Grand Prix, only to find himself with a one point lead going into this weekend after failing to score in both the feature and sprint race during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.Embed from Getty Images
Another frontrunner in need of a result is Briton Jack Aitken who failed to score any points across the two Monaco races.
Others in need of a result include American, Juan Manuel Correa, who has not scored points since the second round in Azerbaijan, and German, Mick Schumacher, who has failed to score points in the previous two rounds.
Been there, done that
At least eight of the drivers on the current grid competed at Paul Ricard last season in Formula 2:
|Driver||2018 F2 Feature Race Result||2018 F2 Sprint Race Result|
|Nyck de Vries||5th||1st|
|Sergio Sette Camara||2nd||6th|
|Jack Aitken||11th||Did Not Start|
Last season the feature race was won by eventual Formula 2 champion and current Williams driver, George Russell ahead of Sette Camara and Ghiotto.
In the sprint race de Vries won ahead of Deletraz and Ghiotto.
