This week’s World Rally Championship (WRC) event is the eleventh and penultimate rally of its 2021 season.
In the championship for drivers Sebastien Ogier heads the standings and is 24 points ahead of second placed Elfyn Evans. This is after Ogier finished fifth in the previous rally in Finland while Evans went on to win the main rally, as well as the power stage.
Completing the top three in the championship for drivers is Thierry Neuville who is 36 points behind Evans and therefore 60 behind Ogier. This is due to Neuville suffering his second retirement of the season in Finland, the Belgian having also retired in the Safari Rally in Kenya.
Neuville has a one point gap to fourth placed Kalle Rovanpera and is two points ahead of Hyundai teammate Ott Tanak. Rovanpera failed to score points in his home rally, having come off the back of his second WRC victory in Greece. Tanak meanwhile finished second in Finland, and also finished second in the power stage, the Estonian’s fourth top three finish of the season.
In the championship for manufacturers Toyota has a 61 point lead over Hyundai who are first and second respectively. There is then a 208 point gap between Hyundai and third placed M-Sport Ford.
